Looking for the perfect new addition to your family? Please stop by our shelter Monday-Saturday 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (with extende hours unil 9 p.m. on Wednesdays) at 616 Big Bear Blvd in Columbia, MO to see our variety of adoptable animals. The Central Missouri Humane Society intakes surrendered or stray pets Monday-Saturday (we are closed on Sundays) 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. While it is important to know that we never turn down a pet in need, it is heartbreaking to see pets surrendered to the shelter when their only “crime” is barking from boredom or wandering out of the owner’s unfenced yard. It is part of our mission here at CMHS to promote responsible pet ownership. To our shelter this does not simply mean a hearty meal, exercise and belly rubs. Routine visits to a veterinarian, keeping your animal vaccinated and most importantly, spayed or neutered is a huge part of the equation. For a full list of our pricing and services click link above.
Lost and Found
We maintain an extensive lost and found file in order to reunite missing pets with their owners. If you have lost your pet, please fill out a lost report at the shelter. Remember that all of our communities strays are housed at CMHS, so please check our facility for your animal as soon as possible! Although we are closed to the public before 12, you may still come in to fill out a lost report. Either knock on our front door or call: 573-999-4950. Unfortunately, we will not be available on Sundays. If you have an animal emergency, please call Ainmal Control at 573-449-1888.
Animal Control
The Central Missouri Humane Society is NOT animal control, however, we do house their animals. For more information about Animal Control’s services, please click here.
Humane Education
This program is a wonderful way to educate our community on the importance of being a responsible pet owner, and a variety of other Humane issues that affect our community. Our Shelter Relations Assistant, accompanied by friendly animals, visits local classrooms and shares information that will educate your class, club or social organization on what it takes to be a member of the Humane Race. If you are interested in such a visit, please contact Angie at education@cmhspets.org.
Pet Visitation
Our friendly volunteers and their furry companions are guaranteed to bring joy wherever they go (Boone Hospital, Columbia Manor, etc)! Once a month, shelter volunteers take adoptable pets to visit Lenoir Woods and Columbia Manor. If you are interested in having a shelter animal (and volunteer) visit your retirement facility, please contact Leslie at volunteer@cmhspets.org.
